UNICEF delivers 15 vehicles for conducting classes on safety to various Ukrainian regions; Cultural Platform Zakarpattya NGO provides interactive materials and methodology

What is a mobile safety class? What information does it provide?
Mobile safety class is a specially designed car where sappers, firefighters, police and the State Emergency Service (SES) representatives will teach children about key safety rules for daily life and wartime. Every vehicle contains its own creative space filled with user-friendly designs and equipment, 3D posters, handouts, and even selfie zones.

Informational materials for the classes were created by the Cultural Platform Zakarpattya NGO. Various forms of interaction between students and speakers were developed in accordance with the topic being studied, and information based on the materials of UNICEF, SES, and the National Police of Ukraine was integrated into these interactive formats. When developing content for each of the topics, the NGO team used their experience of working with youth and children within the “Spilno Camp” project.

What will the safety classes look like?
The NGO team has adapted the lesson scripts for primary, secondary, and high school students. They will not only listen to the information provided, but also do exercises, debunk myths about safety rules, complete quizzes, watch short videos and cartoons, find out how to use this knowledge in practice, and learn how to act in specific situations.

Cultural Platform Zakarpattya NGO has also developed methodological recommendations for the experts who will work in the mobile classes. These materials will help navigate all safety-related topics since they contain lesson plans and give tips on how to prepare for the classes and use the vehicle’s various interactive zones and inventory. All the materials on life-saving topics by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine are available at spilnoteka.org

What is more, the NGO team and UNICEF have conducted offline capacity-building training focused on interactive teaching methods for modern-day children, psychological specifics of working with children during war, and the principles of explaining safety-related topics for the SES and police personnel who will hold lessons in the mobile classes.

Improving children’s safety culture, teaching them to take care of themselves, avoid dangers, and treat their lives as the biggest value—today these are the tasks of national importance for Ukraine. That is why the Cultural Platform NGO has spent a couple of years developing and implementing the concept of safety culture on the all-Ukrainian level, especially through mobile safety classes from UNICEF in Ukraine.

Safety culture acts as a sign of a conscious European society but is even more crucial for Ukrainians. It fosters resilience in times of fragility, promotes necessary knowledge, and trains the skills of conscious citizens. NGO “Cultural Platform Zakarpattya” continues to fill mobile safety classes with new topics to ensure that the learning process is all-encompassing and adheres to international standards.
